Camera Angles

Camera Angles are really important for the media industry because they are quick and simple ways of depicting how the character feels without them saying it outright. They are also ways of changing the way that it looks and giving the film a new fresh look.

Shots and Angles Video

This one has multiple shots in one full video. This video was made last year during my time in the level 2 creative media course. I made this video as part of the same task so I decided to put it here to. It has most of the camera angles in the video but ones that are not will be shown below. Even some of the ones shown in the video will also be below.

Wide Angle

A wide angle can be typically used to show a scenery or to give a full view of something nice. Shots like these can be seen all over the Film & TV media. A wide angle can also give more of a depth to why the character/ focal point is there. For example a character could be stood alone in the middle of a city... if there was a close up shot shown it might not give the right perception that the character is in but if a wide angle was used the characters view would be more clear.

Dutch Angle

A Dutch angle is a camera angle that can help show suspense or shock. To create a Dutch angle all there is to do is have a normal straight forward shot and tilt it 30 degrees to either the left or right. Dutch angles have been shown in a wide range of films, some of the most famous ones are: Jaws, Inglorious bastards and Mission impossible.

Medium Close-up

The medium close up shot usually shows just the top half of the person in frame. This gives the watcher a clear thing to look at to understand what's going on in the scene. Loads if not every movie will have at least one medium close up in it because they are very common in Film & TV. A close up shot can be used well with things like dialogue and conversations between characters.

Close up

A close up shot is a shot that would typically zoom in on something like a characters face or an object closely. If there is a close up shot on a characters face it could be used to emphasise the emotion that the character is feeling. For example in the photo above is a close up from  Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining' and is used to show how the main character has gone insane. This shot is used well because it lets the audience see how this place has driven a man insane.

Extreme Close Up

An extreme close up will normally be used for eyes. This can be used to show an expression using just someone's eye. Its a simple shot that can easily make anything look more professional. It can also be a way to show a eyes true beauty and all the factors tat make up an eye colour

Low Angle

Low angles can be used to create a suspenseful shot or can be used to show fear in films/tv.  They can help show the setting that the characters are in and can give an idea of what's going on in the scene.

High Angle

High angles are shots that are taken from above and give a 'birds eye' view of what's below. These shots can be used in areas like montages and flashbacks of happy memories. They can also give the watcher a view of what the characters are standing on (if they are interested in that). There also ways of giving a scope of how the character is feeling and what there state of mind is.
