Research

Types of Research

Primary research: Primary research is when someone gets data that hasn't already been got before. That can come from surveys, interviews and just general talking.

secondary research: This can be collected from places like the internet, newspapers or television. Its basically getting information that's already been collected and using it.

Qualitive research: Qualitive research comes from a small group but gets information that is in detail and can be used for more important things.

Quantative research: This is collected from things like surveys and is collecting a lot of data from a big group of people. This is the type of research you would see when someone says '99% of people love this' when its taken from a group of around 100 people

Legal research: This is research that is complex and reliable. It identifies laws and makes sure they are stuck too.

ethical research:  This is to make sure all parties at hand are treated equally and not to be discriminated. It is to make sure everything is accurate and not incorrect.

3 Point Lighting

Three point lighting is when there is three lights (clearly) in three different positions to create a clear light source. Three point lighting can also help create different moods by changing the range, brightness and angle. These can help in films to give a clear view of what's happening in the scenes. There are certain names for three point lighting and these are: Kicker light, Rim light, Catch light and Slash light.  This could be best for films that are very light dependent to show emotion like thrillers or horrors. Using three point lighting is perfect to make easy shots that look professional and add a significant amount to the scene.

Camera Angles

Camera angles are very important to filmmaking, There are so many of them and all of them create a different view to the other. Some angles I would like to talk about specifically are dutch angles. A dutch angle is just a normal shot but rotated 45 degrees. These angles can be used to show a 'realisation' aspect and can have a strong impact in where it's being used. Other angles which are quite self explanatory are called: Close up, Extreme close up, Wide angle and medium shot. More information can be found at this page. Camera angles . Every camera angle serves a purpose to the movie and has an importance to how the movie will look (if every movie just had the same camera shot it would be boring).

Setting up a camera and tripod

Here is a step by step guide and a little on why about how to set up a camera and tripod:

1. The first thing that you want to do is to get the equipment for this. The things that you will need will be: A camera and a tripod. There is more than just that because there is different types of each of them. For cameras there is different brands like Nikon and Canon. These brands have specific areas that they are better at. A Nikon is good for audio and a Canon can clip a mic on to it.

2. The second thing to do is to make sure that the camera is able to be put on a tripod. This is important to check because if the camera is not able to be put on a tripod you would not be able to use one.

3. Make sure when you are putting the camera on top that is is securely in and will not fall off/ become loose. If the camera is loosely on the tripod it would be dangerous and could damage the equipment.

4. Once the camera is securely on the tripod you can then adjust the legs to be the height that you want. (also steps 3 and 4 can be reversed for if its easier or not) To adjust the leg height there should be 3 clips on each side on each leg, these legs are adjustable and can be changed to whatever fits your need.

5. Now that the tripod is ready it can be moved and changed around to make it be the best it can be and to be reliable as possible.

Analysing 3 How To: YouTube Videos

Video 1:

To start with, this video is 11 years old... so there is some reason this video isn't the best of quality. The tutorial itself is straight forward but there is no things like caption prompts like for e.g.: 'step 1....'. Not having these captions on the video might make it so some people who cannot use sound wont have a complete understanding of what's going on. This video is also set in only one shot which doesn't give the viewer much of a good view of the tripod unless the lady recording moves it physically closer. The audio quality sounds like it comes straight from the webcam, this means that is could have some 'choppy' (meaning that is cuts off) and also sound a bit reverberant too. The video being 11 years old will always factor into why the video quality isn't as good because the technology wasn't as good back then as it is now. The camera quality is also one of the things that is mainly because of the time this video was made. If this video was made in modern times (2022) it would probably be 10x better quality because back then this was probably the best camera to get.

This video runs for around 5 mins and 20 seconds. To set up a tripod that could have been done way quicker. There was some dead space in the video which could have caused the viewer to loose there interest (but if there that far into the video they would probably continue to finish setting up there tripod). The video is also in one long take which to some could make it feel like it drags on and would then get bored. one good thing about this video is that its straight to the point and doesn't seem to derail from the main focus of the video. That's good because for the people that do watch through it will be able to get a straight forward tutorial on how to set up a tripod.

Video 2:

This tutorial is more modern to the first to start with. The camera quality is better then the last also. This video is a super simple straight forward guide to setting up a camera and tripod. Its also good for people who's audio doesn't work because there is a captioned guide for what to do in the video. This will help out a lot for people who have the issue of not having audio. The video also feels like a 'how to video' meaning when you watch it you can tell that your going to get the answer to the question you want. It doesn't feel like that for the other video.  The captions used on this video are a simple font to not be to flashy and can be read well. They give clear instructions to help out while watching the video on screen. One issue may be reading at the same time as watching but the text-time to video ratio is very good and easy to follow along.

This video runs to about  4 mins 30 seconds so its already shorter then the first which means more people are likely to click onto it. Having a shorter video for a tutorial makes it more likely to be clicked by people because they want a shorter and easier to follow tutorial. The quality of the video to makes it more presentable and desirable to click on so that would also get it more of a chance to the first vid. Overall this is a good and effective tutorial to use for people to set up a tripod.

Video 3:

This video right from the start is already catching the eye just from the thumbnail itself. It makes you interested because this guy is doing a heel click while leaning on a tripod. He uses a thumbnail method from back in 2017 which makes people want to click because he is being 'silly'. Back then this would have gained traction because the popular channels was people like Logan Paul who's whole personality was being egotistical and 'silly. The video itself is also good quality and simple to follow. There isn't any captions used in the video but he uses different camera angles to focus on what he is talking about. Using focal points really helps out on this video because it shows what to focus on so the viewer knows where to look on there actual physical tripod.

The man who is talking in the video makes the video have a light hearted feeling whilst still giving the information needed. This helps the video stand out because it seems more easier to watch so people could still enjoy the video whist learning what to do. The video comes to 3 mins 52 seconds which is the shortest out of all of them which could add to its likeliness of being chosen.  This video can drag on a little and there is an overuse of different shots which can distract the viewer and make them loose focus of where they was at. Overall this video is around the middle range and would not be chosen by most people
